Choosing a wedding photographer

A wedding is something you will never forget and want all the memories to be captured. Photographers are one of those things you do not know what you are going to get until you get the finished product. This requires research and critique to determine if they will meet your specific needs.

Before the search begins it is important to determine what type of photography style you are looking for. Begin to look online and find things that match your theme, whether it may be google images, Pinterest, bloggers, etc. Find your inspiration! Read reviews from local listings and recent newlyweds. Go over photographers’ websites and blogs to see what they can offer. Strategically review how they capture each moment of weddings and events, specifically those special to you. What is the client’s feedback? From this point, you should have an idea of what you want and who will meet your needs.

After you get a feel for a photographer through research it is important to meet in person. If the fees meet your budget and their site catches your eye don’t waste time. If possible, send an introductory email introducing yourself and giving details about your event. If they are already booked on your event date, see if they have a team or have any recommendations of other shooters that have similar styles. Your meetings should be with a minimum of five photographers whose calendar is available on the date of your wedding. Have everything organized and all details to discuss.

Photographers tend to show prospective clients a portfolio of their best pictures from different weddings, so you only see their very best. Request to see two to three full galleries from actual weddings they have shot so you can get an idea of what your complete collection of photos can look like. During the review of the portfolio pay attention to key moments you desire to be captured. Look at the sharpness, lighting, and overall composition of the photos. Are the bride and grooms’ emotions captured and those attending the wedding? The photographer must capture all aspects of the event and you see smiling shots of your friends too.

It is important to get the full feel of the photographer. Do they share the same vision you expressed? What are their mannerisms putting off? Are the suggestions presented concisely and respectfully addressed? To ensure you get what you want to make sure you choose a photographer who understands social environments well and is bold enough to search and capture the best images. It is a MUST to be comfortable with this individual as they will be sharing the most intimate moments of your wedding. At the same time, you do not want your guests to feel pestered or annoyed by the photographer either. You want a photographer with a side of coaxing to keep everyone aligned and in good spirits. Someone who is a good listener and values this special moment just as much as you do.
